Fusarium chlamydosporum, causing wilt disease of chili (Capsicum annum L.) and brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) in Northern Himalayas: a first report

Abstract: Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) and brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) are the most widely grown solanaceous crops in the world. However, their production has reduced over several years due to the attack of various fungal and bacterial pathogens and various abiotic factors. Still, the major constrain in their production are pathogens with fungal etiology, especially the fungal wilt of solanaceous crops. Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium solani have been previously identified as the pathogens causing wilt disease in chili… Show more

“…Recently, in the Kashmir division of the northern Himalayan region of India, F. chlamydosporum has been observed as a dangerous pathogen decimating crops. While F. oxysporum and F. solani have often been described as pathogens causing chilli and brinjal diseases, F. chlamydosporum has been described for the first time in this region [96].…”

“…F. brachygibbosum for instance is linked to potato tubers and wheat seeds diseases. Likewise, F. clamydosporum, F. solani and F. equiseti are also reported to cause wilt diseases in chilli (Parihar et al, 2022). Additionally, F. equiseti, in particular, is linked to ear and kernel rot in maize.…”
