Future Learning Spaces in Schools: Concepts and Designs from the Learning Sciences

Abstract: As institutions invest time and money into constructing or redesigning spaces to meet educational goals of the innovation age, it is prudent for designers to be guided by lessons learned from research. Based on a synthesis of four leading future learning spaces, a novel conceptualization is offered here to advance both scholarship and practice of future learning spaces. Specifically, this synthesis distinguishes between two types of spaces: content-flexible and content-specific. Content-flexible spaces are ded… Show more

“…In sum, learners' not only gaining knowledge from peers but learning from other ICT resources such as social media, digital or some virtual learning platforms. Thus, an adequate and compatible technology-enabled learning ambience is obligatory for learners which coined as "next generations learning space" (Byers, 2015;Hod, 2017;Leonard, Fitzgerald, Bacon, & Munnerley, 2017;Pates & Sumner, 2016). https://doi.org/10.15405/epms.2019.12.14 Corresponding Author: Nooriati Taib Selection and peer-review under…”

“…Descriptive case studies will no longer thrill anybody (Aldowah, Rehman, Ghazal, & Irfan, 2017). With interactive simulation to be only the top of an iceberg, engaging, interactive, immersive, full of interaction with AI, ubiquitous computing and technology seem to be the key to success (Yeoman & McMahon-Beattie, 2018;Hod, 2017;Schneider, 2017). Therefore, the classroom of the future, based on the idea of the design thinking lab, seems to be the passport to success in the upcoming digital world.…”
