Aim: To analyze the concept of systems of communication in school nurse-led care coordination to develop an operational definition that will inform intervention development. Background: Communication has been identified as an essential attribute in care coordination. However, previous concept analyses of care coordination did not clearly define systems of communication or consider the context of school-based care coordination. Defining and conceptualizing systems of communication has important implications for improving school nurse-led care coordination. Methods: Concept analysis was conducted using Walker and Avant's eight-step concept analysis method. The literature was searched to identify supporting literature that was analyzed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. Results: Systems of communication in school nurse-led care coordination can be defined as systems wherein care team members, led by the school nurse, collaborate by communicating information and knowledge through an individualized healthcare plan that is student/family-centered and shared through information systems. Attributes require developing an individual health plan that incorporates care coordination needs, information sharing with student/ family consent, and a clear delineation of team member roles. Consequences include student/family outcomes, team member knowledge, and efficiency and accuracy of information. Conclusions: Concept clarification and a synthesized definition allow for more effective measurement development for effective communication in school nurse-led care coordination. Students with healthcare needs in the school environment require systems of communication that efficiently work toward school nurse-led care coordination that addresses the student's health and academic outcomes.

Assessing the Reliability and Validity of the Spanish Version of the Actual Scope of Nursing Practice Scale

Nursing workforce shortage is one of the main challenges for healthcare organizations and it is important to determine if nurses are fulfilling their full scope of practice. There is a questionnaire that measures the activities carried out by nurses, but there is no version available for the Spanish context. The purpose of this study was to develop a cross-cultural adaptation of the “Actual Scope of Nursing Practice” questionnaire by D’Amour et al., and to assess the psychometric characteristics of the Spanish version. An exploratory sequential research design was used. The cross-cultural adaptation was performed using translation, back-translation, review, and pre-testing. Psychometric properties were assessed to determine its construct validity and internal consistency. Among the 501 eligible nurses from the three main hospitals in the region, the first 310 nurses to respond to an online questionnaire were included in our study. The response rate was 61.9%. They were invited via email and completed the survey using the SurveyMonkey platform. The Spanish version of the questionnaire was obtained. A final scale with twenty items and two factors was confirmed with an adequate fit, with the item scores demonstrating that all items were optimally related to their respective latent construct. The alpha coefficients for the Spanish ASCOP scale were robust and revealed good internal consistency. This study showed that the Spanish version of the scale, “Scope of Nursing Practice”, has a good degree of validity and reliability. This questionnaire can support nurse managers in realising nursing activities within their organisations and in promoting desirable work outcomes among nurses.

Psychological capital (PsyCap) is a term coined in organizational psychology and refers to a person’s development of states that motivate behavior. Also known in the literature as PsyCap, this construct typically refers to positive states of hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism that are amenable to intervention and that are related to subjective well-being and life satisfaction. The aims of this systematic scoping review were to explore how PsyCap is described in youth mental health literature and how PsyCap and mental health are related. Results from four databases were reported following PRISMA guidelines. A total of 772 studies were identified and 16 studies were fully reviewed, including an overall sample of 6,772 youth from six countries. PsyCap has a positive relationship with mental health in youth. Future studies should involve school nurses to validate the constructs that characterize PsyCap and validate an instrument for measuring PsyCap in youth mental health in English.
