Fuzzy logic based optimal placement of voltage regulators and capacitors for distribution systems efficiency improvement

Abstract: Electric power systems in most developing countries, especially Ethiopia, are fed by radial distribution systems (RDSs), which serve as the final link between the high voltage transmission system and the consumers. In this paper, a fuzzy logic optimization method was presented for the efficient location of voltage regulators (VR) and capacitors in distribution systems (DSs). An investigation of Gondar power distribution system was performed specifically at the Gondar feeder in Gondar, Ethiopia which has 60 nod… Show more

“…is section presents a comparison of the proposed fuzzy logic control algorithm with related research papers. In this research work, the WT is reduced by a maximum of 9.26 minutes as compared with other studies in [2,[12][13][14][15] with a fewer number of rules. Also, other factors like a number of rules, WT, MF, and LI and outputs (LO) are compared with other research papers as presented in Table 1.…”

“…The utilization of the grey wolf, dragonfly, and moth-flame optimization approaches for the ideal capacitor placements in a variety of distribution networks was given in [20]. Addisu et al [21] proposed a fuzzy logic optimization strategy for efficient voltage regulator positioning and capacitors in distribution systems. The method was tested on the practical Ethiopian Gondar power distribution system, which has 60 nodes.…”

“…In comparison to the generation and transmission systems, the distribution system has a far greater range of voltage levels, components, loads, and interconnections [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]. With respect to generation and transmission, Ethiopia's current distribution system needs improvement [ 7 , 8 , 9 ]. The main problem that electric power utilities in developing countries face today is that power consumption is high, yet supply expansion is hampered by limited resources, environmental concerns, and other societal considerations.…”
