Fuzzy modeling and control for detection and isolation of surge in industrial centrifugal compressors

Abstract: Abstract-This paper provides the possible application of the fuzzy approaches in fault detection and isolation area for a class of complex industrial processes with uncertain interval parameters. The main idea of fuzzy fault detection and isolation is to build a model of a diagnosis procedures, using rules-based Fuzzy Expert System, capable to minimize false alarms enhance detectability and isolability and minimize detection time by hardware implementation to improve reliability, safety and global efficiency. … Show more

“…To illustrate the efficiency of the proposed fuzzy method, experimental results of the fuzzy supervision for a compression system are provided. We note that this work is a first step in accessing the factors that affect the success of surge control in natural gas pipeline compression system [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13] and [14].…”

“…In recent years fuzzy logic has been an active area of research, many research efforts have been focused on fuzzy modelling and control issues based on the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model [2][3] [8] and [12], which is described by fuzzy IF-THEN rules. For a nonlinear system that is transformed successfully into a T-S fuzzy model, the stability of the overall nonlinear system still cannot be guaranteed even if each subsystem of the T-S fuzzy model is stable.…”

“…This dynamic model presents an important element in the proposed diagnosis and detection approach, where the main objective is to obtain the best dynamical model based on previous works. Indeed, several recent researches have been dealt with the gas compressor systems modeling such as: the industrial centrifugal compressors modeling based of fuzzy logic approach [26], the centrifugal gas compressor parametric modeling based on system identification [27], the two shaft gas turbine modeling based on linearized model [28], the system simulation for dynamic centrifugal compressor model [29], and others [30,31,32,33].…”

“…This choice is motivated by the effectiveness of fuzzy logic solution for many industry problems [16,17,19,20]. Indeed, based only on human expert knowledge, fuzzy logic solutions are very powerful on nonlinear systems modelling and control.…”
