G-DEVS/HLA Environment for Distributed Simulations of Workflows

Abstract: In this paper, we present a Workflow environment allowing distributed simulation based on DEVS / G-DEVS formalisms. A description language for Workflow processes and an automatic transformation of a Workflow into a G-DEVS model have been defined. Then, we introduce a new distributed Workflow Reference Model with HLA-compliant Workflow components. We detail the HLA objects shared between Workflow federates and we present the publishing/subscribing status of each of these federates. Finally, we illustrate the us… Show more

“…(xi) Immersive Simulation, which is a promising trend where the system and the resources can be solicited for behavior validation. Simulation can be used to anticipate the need to update the least efficient (or deficient) parts of the system, browsing a base of potential solutions that can improve the tested system performance (Angulo, 2013;Zacharewicz, Frydman, & Giambiasi, 2008).…”

“…Zacharewicz et al [4] proposed in, an environment, named DEVS Model Editor (LSIS DME), to create G-DEVS models that are HLA compliant and simulating them in a distributed fashion. In LSIS DME, a G-DEVS model structure can be split into federate component models in order to build a HLA federation (i.e., a distributed G-DEVS coupled model).…”

“…Also, [25,26] have used G-DEVS models and HLA RTI to simulate the behaviour of several components by mixing HLA and web service calls. The distributed simulation principle of [26] was based on the original pessimistic algorithm described in [6], adding more recent advances on lookahead described in [4]. These set-ups, with RTI as mediator of all messages exchanged, can be interesting from the interoperability point of view but they can cause overheads and slow down the communication as discussed in [27].…”
