Nucleophilic ring opening of the 1-oxa-3,5-diazinium salts 2 and 3 by propylamine furnishes the new polydentate, branched, pincer-type ligands 4 and 5, respectively, in 34 and 57 % yield. The 1-oxa-3,5-diazinium salts 2 and 3 were prepared from pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl dichloride (1) by treatment with dimethylcyanamide and diisopropylcyanamide in the presence of antimony pentachloride and tin tetrachloride, respectively. The structure of 4, which is characterised by a strongly twisted N-acyloligonitrile arm, was determined by X-ray crystallography. The ligand 4, with its short and long arms, forms chelate complexes 4 -·Pd(OAc) + and 4·CuCl 2 when treated with palladium(II) acetate and copper(II) chloride, respectively. 4 -·Pd(OAc) + shows remarkable catalytic

Herein we describe the compatibility of 2-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropane nitrile, an insulating gas for gas-insulated equipment, with aluminum, silver and copper. In an autoclave metal samples, oxygen, the gaseous 2-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropane nitrile and a small amount of water were mixed at elevated pressure and heated up to 225°C [a] 1989 for several weeks. When Cu was present a multi-step gas phase reaction occurred, and single crystals of a copper complex were isolated. The square planar copper(II) complex contains two perfluorinated N-acylamidine ligands. The structure of the complex was obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Scheme 1. Previously unknown 1-oxa-2,4-diazahexatrienes 1a,b and c, substituted with alkoxy groups, have been prepared by carboxylation of N-alkylideneisoureas 2 with chloroformates 5. Xray analyses of compounds 1b and c show nonplanar, openchain structures. In contrast, thiocarboxylation of 2 with thiochloroformate 6 leads to the spiro compounds 7-ring, as verified by spectroscopic data and X-ray analysis. A tetradonor-substituted 1-oxa-2,4-diazahexatriene 1d was obtained from the reaction of the 1-oxa-3-aza-butadiene 10 with the triply donor-substituted carbenium ion 9.
