“…The selection of these strains was based on previous results in the amphetamine-induced hyperactivity model (Monleon et al, 1995; Agmo et al, 1997; Anjaneyulu et al, 2003; Arban et al, 2005; Gould et al, 2007; Hiscock et al, 2007) and on previous experiments performed in our laboratory. For Stage 2, only BS mice were utilized.…”

“…Vehicle control groups received an equivalent volume of saline. Drug doses were chosen based on their effects in animal models of affective disorders (Agmo et al, 1997;Gould et al, 2007a;Hiscock et al, 2007;Monleon et al, 1995). Drugs were administered once (Experiment 3) or twice (Experiments 2 and 4-6) per day (see Table 1 for details).…”

“…Microinjection of baclofen into the ventral tegmental area (VTA) blocks the motor stimulant response of dAMPH (Kalivas et al 1990). Furthermore, baclofen inhibits dAMPHinduced distractibility in the rat (Agmo et al 1997), attenuates dAMPH-induced place-preference (Li et al 2001) and decreases dAMPH-induced increases in body temperature (Phillis et al 2001). Microdialysis experiments have demonstrated that both baclofen and the specific, irreversible inhibitor of GABA-transaminase, γ-vinyl-GABA, attenuate cocaine-, methAMPH-, nicotineand morphine-induced increases in NAc DA levels (Morgan and Dewey 1998;Gerasimov et al 1999;Fadda et al 2003); baclofen's effects on dAMPH-induced DA efflux has yet to be evaluated.…”
