Galbonolides from Streptomyces sp. SR107

Abstract: Genome sequence analysis of Streptomyces sp. LZ35 has revealed a large number of secondary metabolite pathways, including a hybrid fatty acid-type PKS gene cluster for biosynthesis of galbonolides. By sequence-guided and culture medium selection and with the aid of specific staining on TLC, galbonolides B (1) and E (2) have been identified from strain Streptomyces sp. LZ35. Further discovery and mining of galbonolides from a clean background mutant strain, Streptomyces sp LZ35Δheng (SR107), led to the isolatio… Show more

“…Genes galABCDE are sufficient for the production of neorustmicin/galbonolide B 66 , while genes galGHIJK are required for production of rustmicin/galbonolide A 65 . The role of the remaining genes is unclear, but it is speculated that they are tailoring enzymes 65 , 67 . The galABCDE core is present in region 5 of 11-1-2, suggesting that this strain can at least produce galbonolide B, while the flanking genes could serve as post-polyketide synthase tailoring enzymes yielding novel galbonolides (Supplementary Fig.…”

“…Our research group did a thorough study of strain LZ35, and a series of novel compounds were isolated from it. [8][9][10][11][12][13] However, instead of obtaining new ansamycins from this effort, 7 compounds were isolated from Streptomyces sp. SP301 at the first time.…”
