“…Literature review revealed that 0.3% to 4.6% of the patients who underwent cholecystectomy for presumed benign disease were found to have GBC with more common incidence in eastern than western countries. The proportion of GBC detected in patients undergoing cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis in our study was 0.5% and is quite comparable with other literature (Table 3) [17][18][19][20]. In the present retrospective study, reviewing 10 patients with GBC surgical treatment remains the only treatment modality associated with a benefit in terms of survival.…”

“…The incidence of GB Ca concurrent with XGC displayed little geographical variation, being present in 5.2% of XGC patients in the pooled cohort. This is higher than the reported incidence of GB Ca within cholecystectomy specimens which does vary according to geographical location and has been reported as being: in Europe 0.09 to 1.1% of patients, in India 0.59 to 1.9% and in the Far East as 0.3 to 4.7% . Gall stones were present in the majority of patients with XGC but not in every patient suggesting a causal role together with other as yet unidentified factors.…”

“…These data were modeled against previously published mortality rates from laparoscopic cholecystectomy, 2,3 rates of common bile duct injury, [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] and rates of incidental gallbladder cancer. [10][11][12][13][14][15] Extrapolated costs of surveillance were then compared against previously published data regarding costs of treatment of cancer in the United Kingdom.…”
