Gallstones

Abstract: Gallstone disease is a common clinical problem that poses particular difficulties for our aging and increasingly obese population. Exciting new research suggests an infectious cause for most cholesterol stones. The keys to managing patients with gallstone disease are recognition of the wide spectrum of clinical disease resulting from gallstones and a flexible, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment. The biliary tract has been a proving ground in the development of minimally invasive technology.
