Game therapy a new approach to treat women facing mixed urinary incontinence: A study protocol

Abstract: Aims To describe a pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) isolated and associated with game therapy (PFMT + GT) for women facing mixed urinary incontinence (MUI) during climacteric period. Methods To standardize a randomized controlled clinical trial intervention, a protocol was created, in an attempt to decrease women's symptomatology generated by MUI, through pelvic floor and abdomino‐loin‐pelvic muscles strength, and endurance. “…It has been noted that recent clinical trials are examining the effectiveness of the Nintendo Wii™ (Foxconn, New Taipei, Taiwan) console as a virtual reality application [18]. For example, there is a new randomized controlled trial being conducted using a Nintendo Wii-based game therapy for women diagnosed with mixed urinary incontinence [19]. This new study demonstrates how VR can be used to help diagnose and treat conditions across many medical specialties such as obstetrics and gynecology and not only limited to neurology or rehabilitation.…”

“…The basis of first-line UI treatment is PFMT [5]. Furthermore, there is an increased interest in the use of modern technologies in UI sufferers [39]. Due to poor knowledge of female anatomy and problems with proper contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles, biofeedback appears to be effective in therapy, which provides to the patient real-time feedback regarding its muscular function and contraction.…”

“…Urinary loss of <1 g is considered insignificant. 20 The KHQ 18 consists of 30 questions, divided into 9 domains that address the impact of UI on QOL. The score ranges from 0 to 100, with a higher score indicating lower QOL in that domain.…”
