“…As shown in previous work the color center formation, in the form of F-centers, is closely related to the TL process (Aceves et al, 1994). The fact that the F-centers as a function of composition x have been measured in KCl1−xBrx: Pb 2+ gamma irradiated samples (Cruz-Zaragoza et al, 2002) and that their TL dependence upon the composition have been quite well characterized (Cruz et al, 2001), indicates that the main electron charge carrier present in the TL phenomenon are related to the F-centers produced by irradiation. It is very likely that those electron trapped in the form of F-centers, stimulated or released by heat may become the main charge carriers that eventually recombine radiatively with an excited or ionized state of the Pb 2+ ion present in the mixed matrix.…”

“…The F-center production e ciency was larger for x = 0:98. The F-center absorption band shifted from 540 to 620 nm towards the low-energy side as the composition x increases (Cruz et al, 2001). Also, the TL properties of KCl1−xBrx: Pb 2+ exposed to radiation at high dose have been investigated recently (Cruz-Zaragoza et al, 2002).…”

“…It is established now that I -ions are distributed in RbBr-RbI mixed systems not randomly but selectively and preferentially around Tl + ions. A similar effect has been observed in gamma irradiated KBr 1-x I x :TlI and KCl 1-x Br x :Pb 2+ mixed crystals at room temperature [26,27]. The broadening and shifting of the F-absorption band in the case of mixed alkali halides may be related to both the intermediate energy levels within the band gap [28] and the change in the lattice parameter.…”

“…The association of F-centers with the glow curve contributes with the identification of the principal irradiation pair-defect associated with the production of the main peak of the glow curve of the thermoluminescence phenomenon [6].…”
