Gamma-Irradiation Effects on the Spectral and Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) Properties of Conjugated Polymers in Solution

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the effects of gamma (γ) radiation on the spectral and mplified spontaneous emission (ASE) properties of two conjugated polymers (CPs) viz., poly [2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) (CPM) and poly{[2-[2 , 5 -bis(2"-ethylhexyloxy)phenyl]-1,4-phenylenevinylene]-co-[2-methoxy-5-(2 -ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene]} (BEHP-co-MEH-PPV) (BMP) in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Gamma irradiation strongly affected the photophysical properties of these CPs.… Show more

“…The experimental studies such as in [31][32][33] show an interesting change of polymer composition on crosslinking in the presence of gamma-ray irradiation. The impact of gamma (γ) radiation on polymers in conjugated structures has also been shown [34]. Some researchers have also put forward some experimental results of the irradiation with a 60 Co gamma-ray of a high-density polyethylene model to address the irradiation effect on the compression and tensile parameters [35].…”

“…The application of gamma irradiation to biodegradable films has been reported to alter the characteristics and subsequently improved the mechanical and barrier properties of the films [6]. It was necessary to irradiate biodegradable films to induce a possible crosslink of the macromolecules as reported in the literature [8][9][10]. It must, however, be noted that the use of gamma irradiation on a packaged product or material has no hazardous effect [11][12][13].…”

“…Furthermore, the introduction of g-C 3 N 4 nanoparticles in the PVC matrix is accompanied by a decrease in the intensity of peaks characteristic for the polymeric matrix. Also, we note that the peak at 1075 cm − 1 became weaker when g-C3N4 nanoparticles were added to the PVC and The new peak appeared at 3197 cm − 1 [40].…”
