Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and evaluation of antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oil of Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg (Guavira)

Abstract: The essential oils from Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg leaves, collected in the reproductive (flowering and fruit-bearing) and vegetative stages, were characterized by GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry). A total of 95 compounds of the essential oils were identified. In the reproductive stage (flowering) the major constituents were monoterpenes (limonene, α-pinene and β-pinene) while during the vegetative stage the major constituents were the sesquiterpenes (bicyclogermacrene and globulol)… Show more

“…Entretanto, nos trabalhos reportados na literatura os rendimentos foram inferiores a 10%. [24][25][26][27][28][35][36][37] Este, portanto, é o primeiro relato da presença dessa substância em concentração tão alta. Sua elevada taxa de biossíntese pode ser normal, uma característica da espécie, ou pode ter sido provocada por fatores bióticos ou abióti-cos, circadianos ou sazonais, por exemplo.…”

“…Gas chromatography (GC) is frequently used for the estimates these oil contents used in the preparation of different products manufactured in pharmaceutical industries [2]. As essential oils (EOs) have medicinal value and used in the pharmaceutical industries for the manufacturing of various types of ointment, these oils are natural and having more impurities, which sometimes give erratic results during drug estimations and resulted out of specification (OOS).…”
