Abstract:The influence of confinement and rheological properties of the liquid phase on the gas holdup and flow regimes in a 2 mm gap bubble column intended as an intensified photobioreactor at high cell concentration is investigated. The results indicate that at a given superficial gas velocity (UGsup), the gas holdup is higher with viscous or non‐Newtonian (nN) fluids than in water and also in a thin‐gap column than in an unconfined one. This behavior increases when confinement ratio increases. Regime transitions occ… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
