Gas‐Liquid Mixing in a Grid‐Disc Impeller Stirred Tank

Abstract: To enhance the gas‐liquid mixing performance in stirred tanks, the grid‐disc impeller was designed by replacing the solid disc of the standard Rushton impeller with a grid disc. Gas‐liquid hydrodynamics of the new impeller was studied by employing the Eulerian‐Eulerian two‐phase model coupled with the dispersed k‐ε turbulence model. Rotation of the impeller was simulated with the multiple reference frame method. Flow field, gas holdup, and power consumption were investigated and compared with the standard Rush… Show more

“…The bubbly flow regime transition characteristics can be defined in accordance with the flow number ( F l ) and the Froude Number ( F r ). The flow number is the ratio of the gas flow rate to the impeller drive flow rate, as shown in Equation (); the Froude number is the ratio of the impeller drive acceleration to the gravity, as shown in Equation () 38 italicFl=QnormalgitalicND3 italicFr=N2Dg where Q g is the reactor inlet flow rate, N is the stirring speed, D is the radial flow impeller diameter, and g is the acceleration of gravity.…”

“…It also uses the friction and centrifugal actions of the rotating disc to drive the media [102][103][104][105]. The impeller structure of the two is obviously different, but the research results of the flow mechanism and flow characteristics also provide a reference for the design and development of the disc pump [106][107][108][109][110]. Therefore, typical cases and results are also reviewed in this study.…”
