Gas Sensing Using One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Nanoresonators

Abstract: In recent years, there has been more research on the use of photonic crystals PCs in the field of detection. The application of these materials as gas sensors seems very promising, because of their miniaturization and high spectral sensitivities. The aim of this work is to contribute to the design and study of a resonant microsystem based on one-dimensional photonic crystals for applications such as optical devices with high quality factor for detecting and measuring the concentration of gas in the air. Indeed… Show more

“…The width and position of these PBGs can be adjusted by the number of periods (number of sites) of the structure, the number of resonators in each site, and the boundary condition at the limit interface of the resonators. The introduction of defects inside the SWGs structure or other periodic structures, gives rise to well-defined transmission peaks corresponding to defect modes inside the band gaps in the transmission spectra [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. For many practical applications, an important task is the predicted rearrangement of the electromagnetic spectrum, which is related to the correct choice of the mediums constituting the structure and nature of the defects introduced inside it.…”

“…Toxicity can have various biological aspects on the human body, exposure to its gases leads to harmful consequences for the organism which leads to physiological and metabolic reactions and even death, the most important effects and clinical signs of intoxication concerning each organ are presented in Table 1 [3-4-5-6]. Therefore, the development of a multitude of fast and reliable sensors to detect different toxic gases has become a necessity, many research for gas sensors of different materials and types were been initiated to discover the sensor that combines the fastest response time, good reproducibility, stability, and lower cost [7,8,9]. [1-3-4-5].…”
