“…Previous comparative studies have shown that TUS-OCCA could accurately detect a variety of gastric lesions, with a 77.8-100.0% sensitivity range and a 94.0-100% specificity range Liu et al 2014aLiu et al , 2014bLiu et al , 2015aLiu et al , 2015bShen et al 2014;Shi et al 2012;Wei et al 2013). Li et al (2012) showed that morphologic features in 350 cases of gastric cancer, including 53 lesions in the cardia, 70 in the fundus, 90 in the body, 99 in the antrum and 38 in the pylorus, were clearly demonstrated by TUS.…”

“…With the remarkable improvements in sonographic equipment, TUS is increasingly used for the detection and evaluation of gastrointestinal lesions Liu et al 2014aLiu et al , 2014bMa et al 2015;Maconi et al 2009;Nylund et al 2013;Shen et al 2014;Shi et al 2012;Wei et al 2013). Moreover, TUS-OCCA has recently been suggested by some authors to be a valuable initial screening tool for gastric lesions in selected patients Liu et al 2014aLiu et al , 2014bLiu et al , 2015aLiu et al , 2015bShen et al 2014;Shi et al 2012;Wei et al 2013). The benefits of the mid-high echoic cellulose-based gastrointestinal contrast agent include the following: (i) the uniformly mid-high level of echogenicity facilitates ultrasound visualization of hypoechoic gastric lesions; (ii) possibly fewer gas artifacts with the contrast compared with water because of the greater bulk and better surface tension properties of the cellulose-based contrast agent, which optimize the displacement of gas and interfere with mural gas adherence; and (iii) better detection of small gastric lesions due to greater flattening of the gastric mucosal folds by the thin paste of the cellulose-based contrast agent.…”
