“…In this respect, Ganaei, in a case-control group study, reported 21.6, 1.7, and 0.4% prevalences of IM, atrophy, and dysplasia in northern Iran on the basis of pathological findings (Mansour-Ghanaei et al, 2012a, 2012b. In reference to other countries worldwide, our values are also lower than those in reports from high-risk countries such as Japan, South Korea, Columbia, and China (Correa et al, 1990;You et al, 1999;Kim et al, 2008;Jemal et al, 2011;Asaka, 2012;Joo et al, 2013), but slightly higher than those in intermediate-risk countries (Muller et al, 2007;Eriksson et al, 2008;Yako-Suketomo and Katanoda, 2009).…”

“…In Iran, this is a very important fact as this country is categorized as an intermediate-risk area, where the seroprevalance of H. pylori infection reaches 62-90% (Malekzadeh et al, 2004;Islami and Kamangar, 2008;Mansour-Ghanaei et al, 2012a, 2012b. Some parts of Iran are also considered high-prevalence areas (Hossein Somi et al, 2006;Malekzadeh et al, 2009;Mansour-Ghanaei et al, 2012a, 2012b. In the present study, the prevalence of precancerous lesions including atrophy, IM, and dysplasia and their relation with some common risk factors were evaluated in a population of chronic dyspeptic patients.…”

“…According to a meta-analysis of six studies, the rates of AG and IM among subjects with family history of gastric cancer were 2.2- and 1.98-fold higher, respectively, than in subjects without a family history [15]. However, a study from Iran in 2012 reported that a family history of gastric cancer was associated with an increased incidence of IM, but not AG [70]. In addition, Oh et al [71] reported that first-degree relatives had an adjusted OR of 2.69 (95% CI, 1.1 to 6.8; p = 0.037) for antral IM in males in a multivariable regression analysis, but there was no such effect on AG.…”

“…From another study exists evidence that key factor in development of gastric cancer p53 gene intron alterations may contribute gastritis development and early detection of these alterations in precancerous lesions such as gastritis may be useful for prediction of risk developing of gastric cancer (Najjar Sadeghi et al, 2013). Gastric cancer is partly a hereditary disease and according recently study the infection Helicobacter pylori and the stomach lesions such as dysplasia, atrophy and chronic gastritis have been met more frequently in individuals with a family history of gastric cancer (Mansour-Ghanaei et al, 2012). In most cases the infection Helicobacter pylori is asymptomatic.…”
