“…To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to show that it is possible to successfully employ the technique of laparoscopic gastrectomy for a variety of conditions, both under elective and emergent conditions, in a community hospital with good short-term outcomes. The median operating time for all the procedures in this study was 169 min (range 23-387 min), which is within the range of other series [15][16][17][18][19][20]. Subset analysis of patients undergoing laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for adenocarcinoma in our series showed a median operative time of 174 min (range 112-387 min), which favors better than other reports [5,6].…”

“…[1][2][3] They most commonly affect the upper gastrointestinal tract with involvement of the stomach in more than 50% of cases. [1][2][3][4] Although patients can present with abdominal pain or bleeding, they are often asymptomatic. The increased number of upper gastrointestinal endoscopies and endoscopic ultrasounds being performed has likely contributed to the increased incidence of GISTs.…”

“…When signs of malignancy are uncovered by the imaging procedures the diagnostic process should be interrupted and surgery should be scheduled but if there are none EUS-FNA could be the third step. At present, there are only a few reports about the use of capsule endoscopy for the diagnosis of GIST [64,76] so this algorithm should not be considered valid for this neoplasm of the jejunum and the ileum.…”
