Gauged $$B-L$$ B - L number and neutron–antineutron oscillation: long-range forces mediated by baryophotons

Abstract: Transformation of a neutron to an antineutron n →ñ has not yet been experimentally observed. In principle, it can occur with free neutrons in the vacuum or with neutrons bound inside the nuclei. In a nuclear medium the neutron and the antineutron have different potentials and for that reason n-ñ conversion in nuclei is heavily suppressed. This transformation can also be suppressed for free neutrons in the presence of an environmental vector field that distinguishes the neutron from the antineutron. We consider… Show more

“…Taking into account also uncertainties in the Yukawa constants in (22), this estimate falls in the experimental mass range of neutrinos when M D ∼ 100 TeV and V χ < 1 MeV. For M D ∼ 1 TeV, when Y ν ∼ 10 −2 , one needs V χ ∼ 10 eV.…”

“…with large Yukawa couplings χ N N etc. in (22). However, it decouples at T < M D , while neutrinos remain in equilibrium with all standard particle degrees of freedom with g * (T < M D ) = 110 or perhaps even more if there are new particles with masses less than M D as e.g.…”

“…We mention that a possible test of the WGC applied to a long-range U (1) B−L can be in Neutron-Antineutron oscillation experiments (See [19][20][21] for recent analysis of stringent limits on B-L couplings to neutrons (antineutrons)). A more surprising result is that, according to Weak gravity conjecture, Eq.…”

“…second parts of the neutron drift vessel. Let us also remark that bound (31) becomes invalid in the presence of reasonably large mirror magnetic field, or if there exist long range fifth forces mediated by hypothetical B−L baryophotons which could induce level splitting up to ∼ 10 −11 eV between n and n states [53,71]. 4.…”
