Gb_ANR-47 Enhances the Resistance of Gossypium barbadense to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum (FOV) by Regulating the Content of Proanthocyanidins

Abstract: Anthocyanidin reductase (ANR) is an important regulator of flavonoid metabolism, and proanthocyanidins, the secondary metabolites of flavonoids, play an important role in the response of plants to pathogenic stress. Therefore, in this study, the expression analysis of the ANR gene family of Gossypium barbadense after inoculation with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum (FOV) was performed at different time points. It was found that Gb_ANR-47 showed significant differences in the disease-resistant cultivar 06… Show more

“…Hence, we performed identi cation and characterization of the GT64 gene family in eight distinct cotton species to explore potential strategies for improving disease resistance in cotton. In recent years, various families in cotton have been studied, such as GBSOT [39], GhGABA [40], GhIFR [41], GhGGPS [42], GhTBL [43], GhDREB [44], GhSBT [45], GhLOG [46], GhGATL [47], GhMDVL[48], and GhANN [49].…”

“…Flavonoid metabolites are also associated with plant resistance to UV-B radiation and infections ( Torregrosa et al., 2004 ; Treutter, 2005 ; Falcone Ferreyra et al., 2012 ; He et al., 2022 ). Moreover, some key enzymes related to or involved in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway, such as PAL (phenylalanine ammonia lyase) ( Pant et al., 2021 ), CHS (chalcone synthase) ( Zu et al., 2019 ), CHI (chalconeisomerase) ( Dao et al., 2011 ), ANR (anthocyanidin reductase) ( Su et al., 2022 ), DFR (dihydroflavonol 4-reductase) and ANR (anthocyanidin reductase) ( Kumar et al., 2013 ), play important roles in the plant response to UV-B radiation and bacterial or fungal infection. High-level expression or overexpression of the genes encoding these enzymes suggested high resistance or tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.…”

“…The further development of genetic engineering has brought great convenience to scientific researchers. The existence of cotton genome sequences has enabled researchers to explore the evolution and functional analysis of different gene families, many of which have been previously examined in cotton: for example, GhIFR [29], GhGGPS [30], GhTBL [31], GhDREB [32], GhSBT [33], GhLOG [34], GhGATL [35], Gb_ANR [36], and GbCHI [37].…”
