Gc-MS Analysis of Bioactive Compounds in Ethanol Leaves Extract of Sphenocentrum Jollyanum and Their Biological Activities.

Abstract: Sphenocentrum jollyanum is a plant genus of the family Menispermaceae. It has high medicinal importance as it is used traditionally to treat various diseases such as jaundice, breast engorgement related to the menstrual cycle, tumour, fibroids and improve the health of people. The present investigation was carried out to analyze the bioactive compounds present in ethanol crude extract of Sphenocentrum jollyanum leaves using GC-MS analysis. GC-MS analysis of ethanol extract Sphenocentrum jollyanum was done usin… Show more

“…The results obtained by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were supported by many researchers. Phthalic acid, isobutyl octadecyl ester is a bioactive compound [37], whereas hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester functions as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihyperlipidemic, and antimicrobial [38]On the other hand, 9-octadecenoic acid, (E)-, and n-hexadecanoic acid. The presence of these major phytoconstituents in date fruit provides a variety of biological activities such as antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor activity, which supports the plant's ethno-medicinal uses in disease curing [39], i-Propyl 14-methyl-pentadecanoate also had antioxidant, antiandrogenic, antiproliferative, antieczemic, antihistamine, antibacterial, antifungal, hypocholesteromiic, and antitumor activity.…”

“…Traditionally, morphoanatomical features have been used to categorize plants in the plant taxonomy system (Abdulrahman 2022). Therefore, to evaluate the presence of many substances in each sample, scientists use Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), a hybrid analytical approach that combines the separation capabilities of gas-liquid chromatography with the detection capability of mass spectrometry (Uka et al 2022). GC can separate a sample's volatile and thermally stable substitutes, and MS can fragment the target analyte for mass-based identification (Uka et al 2022).…”

New applications for GC-MS have been made possible by its improved sample identification, higher sensitivity, a wider range of analyzable samples, and faster findings (Uka et al 2022).…”
