Gc-Ms Study of Two Column Fractions from Methanol Extracts of Loranthus Micranthus and Their In Vivo Antidiabetic Activity on Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rats

Abstract: The methanol extracts of Loranthus micranthus fractions were collected from column chromatography. From TLC, the fraction 17 and 20 were selected based on the clear distiguishable of bands and few phytochemicals. Same fractions when subjected to GC-MS, fraction-17 yielded 13 and fraction-20 yielded 11 prominent compounds. Diabetic rats that were treated with the fraction 17 and 20 showed significantly increase in body weight (16.52 and 12.43 % respectively). Hypoglycemic effect and antihyperlipidemic character… Show more

“…[28] In this regard, extracts from medicinal plants and their phytochemicals have been found to play an exceptional role in the management of diabetes, while having lesser side effects. [29][30][31] In the current work, all extracts displayed antidiabetic effect through inhibition of amylase and glucosidase (0.04-0.56 and 0.93-1.09 mmol ACAE/g, respectively) (Table 4). While the less polar extracts showed lower amylase inhibition compared to the polar ones, the polar extracts on the other hand, displayed slightly higher antiglucosidase effect than the less polar ones.…”

“…They have been used since ancient times to cope with various ailments including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, inammation, neurological disorders and skin diseases etc. [22][23][24][25][26][27][28] Numerous epidemiological studies have predicted reduced cancer incidence with the use of phytochemicals. [29][30][31] Phytochemicals such as curcumin, 32 resveratrol, 33,34 epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), 35,36 silibinin, 37 benzyl isothiocyanate, 38,39 genistein, 40 kaempferol, 41,42 thymoquinone, 43 quercetin, 44 parthenolide, 45 sulforaphane, 46 naringenin, 47,327,330 isoliquiritigenin 48,49 and ginsenosides [50][51][52] have been shown to suppress breast carcinoma via modulation of various signalling transduction pathways, genes and gene products.…”
