Gel Electrolyte for Solid‐State Electrochromic Cell

Abstract: The preparation, the electrical and rheological properties as well as the electrochemical behavior of gel electrolytes made of LiClO4‐normalpropylene carbonate (PC) electrolyte mixed with poly(methylmethacrylate) polymer (PMMA) as a stiffener are described. The addition of PMMA in various proportions to LiClO4 (M)‐PC electrolyte considerably increases the viscosity to reach for large amounts of PMMA, a solid rubber‐like material. On the other hand the conductivities at room temperature of these gels decrea… Show more

“…However, much less has been reported on their application in supercapacitors particularly at extreme temperatures compared to their application in lithium ion batteries. The high capacitance of supercapacitors based on this type of electrolytes is attributed to the fast ion mobility due to the presence of many continuous conduction paths through the solvent [37]. A coin-type supercapacitor cell based on PVdF-HFP/ PC/EC/TEABF4 gel electrolytes and activated carbon electrodes showed a specific capacitance of 123 F g −1 and a good cycleability exceeding 104 cycles with approx.…”

“…6,7 The ionic conductivity of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) gel electrolytes remain very close to that of 10 À3 S/cm at room temperature. 8,9 Polymer electrolyte based on PVC offered low ionic conductivity at ambient temperature. 10,11 The choice of individual components in the electrolyte material is crucial.…”

“…However, they can be eliminated by proper pretreatment processes before use. For instance, thermal stability of electrolytes consisting of PMMA/LiClO 4 /PC has been noticeably enhanced before (T onset ≈ 160°C) and after (T onset ≈ 240°C) heat treatment [94]. Various factors that affect the thermal stability of different polymer electrolytes have been discussed in this section.…”
