Gemcitabine and Carboplatin (Renally Dosed) Regimen for Bladder Cancer

Abstract: The complexity of cancer chemotherapy requires pharmacists be familiar with the complicated regimens and highly toxic agents used. This column reviews various issues related to preparation, dispensing, and administration of antineoplastic therapy, and the agents, both commercially available and investigational, used to treat malignant diseases.

“…Eleven months post-operation, space-occupying lesion in S5 of the liver was detected by CT. Percutaneous biopsy of the hepatic lesion indicated metastasis of the TCC. The patient was intravenously treated with chemotherapy as follow regimen: gemcitabine 1000 mg/m 2 (on days 1 and 8) and carboplatin area under the curve = 5 (on day 1) according to treatment protocols for bladder cancer [7].
