The paper features the language objectivation of femininity in the glossy magazines Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Glamour. The analysis of the problem is based on the theory of the social construction of gender and aims to identify the main trends of language representation of women. The material of the study was Russian Publications Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Glamor -the most popular glossy magazines designed for women. The files of the examples analyzed by us are compiled by the method of continuous sampling (more than 2000 contexts) on the basis of printed and Internet versions of Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Glamor journals in 2016. The verbal component is considered as one of the main factors in the construction of gender in glossy magazines, which model new type of the "femine" consciousness, combining the sensual experience of reality and the ability to transform it. Gender relations, stereotypes and ideology are revealed through the analysis of linguistic representations. The authors observe morphological and syntax means of the Russian language as indicators of gender identification in terms of mediatext construction. The analysis of language means proves the complication of gender identification in Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Glamour, and the sharpening of the "femine" consciousness due to inclusion of masculine features in it. The analysis of linguistic means representing femininity allows to draw a conclusion about the modeling a new type of "female consciousness" on the pages of glossy magazines, in which the ability to the sensual experience of reality is supplemented by the ability to transform it.

Building on recent investigations of the role of gendered discourses in constructing and maintaining sex-segregated professions this article highlights the significance of small story analysis for the identification of positioning acts which function as rhetorical warrants for career choices and trajectories. It analyses small stories told by Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and investigates the tensions expressed in the negotiation and performance of their gendered professional identities. Small stories act as a medium of professional identity construction, rapport-building and as a site of contestation, employed to (re)appraise the social order, particularly with respect to 'women's' and 'men's' work. Gendered discourses are shown to impact not only on the amount of men entering the SLT profession but also the specialisms and progression routes that men and women pursue. The analysis points to the reproductive and regulatory power of gendered discourses on individuals' experience of their gendered subjectivity and professional identity.

Abstract.This paper investigates the extent to which the negative evaluation of one of the women Ministers in the Northern Ireland Assembly can be attributed to gender. Interviews with politicians as well as the Minister herself illuminate this discussion by identifying the 'gendered discourses' that are drawn upon when describing the Minister's communicative style in debates. Close analyses of transcripts of debates offer a description of some elements of this style, and find that while the Minister is confrontational in debates and 'stands her ground', she does not take part in illegal interventions that disrupt the debate floor and are characteristic of the Assembly as a whole. Although the construction of the Minister's unpopularity can be attributed to a complex interplay of factors, it can be concluded that it is partly the way she draws on gendered linguistic resources that leads her to be negatively judged by her peers.
