In this paper, we analyse the transparency of multinationals in matters of gender, in accordance with the requirements determined by the global reporting initiative (GRI) and United Nations (UN). “…Both correspond to endogenous models delayed by one period with the aim of controlling the impact that the variable explained one period ago ( t − 1) has on the variable explained at time t . This approach is consistent with the fact that the sustainability projects in force at time t are associated with those promoted in the previous period, considering that sustainability is a continuous process (García‐Sánchez et al, 2022).…”

“…Focusing only on gender issues, the UN Women and UN Global Compact (UNGC) partnership promotes reporting on the progress of women's empowerment principles, whereby firms can integrate the gender dimension in Global Compact Communication on Progress reports and/or Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)‐based sustainability reports (UNIFEM and UNGC, 2012). These reports improve firms' transparency with regard to their gender equality practices and performance, informing their stakeholders about their corporate behavior on this issue, which enhances their reputation (García‐Sánchez et al, 2020; García‐Sánchez et al, 2022). External auditing of the information disclosed in these CSR reports is an increasingly more widespread business practice, possibly because it allows firms to emphasize and improve their CSR commitment, gain credibility, and consequently boost their corporate financial performance from signaling theory (Karaman et al, 2021).…”

“…Women directors encourage firms to inform their stakeholders about gender issues in their CSR reports (Furlotti et al, 2019;Valls Martínez et al, 2019). One of the most common reference frameworks on gender disclosure is the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework García-Sánchez et al, 2022). External auditing of the information disclosed in these CSR reports is an increasingly more widespread business practice, possibly because it allows firms to emphasize and improve their CSR commitment, gain credibility, and consequently boost their corporate financial performance from signaling theory (Karaman et al, 2021).…”

“…Over the past decade, a myriad of environmental and social issues, such as climate change, pollution, and gender discrimination, has underscored the importance of taking urgent and concerted action to improve living conditions (Alshbili et al, 2021; Garcia‐Sanchez et al, 2022). Ever since the Paris Agreement and the inception of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, more focus has been placed on financial markets as important instruments to address the complex web of environmental and social issues (D'Apice et al, 2021; Eliwa et al, 2021; Raimo et al, 2021; Sinha et al, 2021).…”
