“…These school hassles centered on physical aggression, harassment, and overt disrespectful encounters more than subtle social ostracism that females reported when they were victimized [78]. Another possible explanation for this gender difference is the fact that some rural communities in the United States follow prescribed gender roles, where men are supposed to be masculine and dominant and women are expected to be subservient [79]. It is well documented that male victims of bullying often do not fit this "masculine ideal", and, it is possible that, in this rural setting, they are therefore at an increased risk for bullying victimization as compared to their urban counterparts.…”

As leituras de gênero mostram-se complexas e precisam ser consideradas a partir do contexto e das mudanças ocasionadas nas comunidades rurais (Bryant & Pini, 2009).…”

“…For all three scales, the values of the rural subsample are lower than for the metropolitan one, showing more conservative attitudes toward gender ideology in rural regions in Germany. According to the findings of British rural studies (Little and Panelli, 2003;Little, 2006), living in rural areas should lead to more conservative gender ideologies than living in metropolitan areas (Hypotheses 1a and 1b), mediated by the presence of a rural ideology of the specific domestic roles of women (Davidoff et al, 1976) and more heterogeneity in occasions in cities (Bolzendahl and Myers, 2004). People in metropolitan regions are better educated than in other parts of Germany (t-test value: p < .01) and are less inclined to attend church.…”
