General multipole expansion of polarization observables in deuteron electrodisintegration

Abstract: Formal expressions are derived for the multipole expansion of the structure functions of a general polarization observable of exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron using a longitudinally polarized beam and/or an oriented target. This allows one to exhibit explicitly the angular dependence of the structure functions by expanding them in terms of the small rotation matrices d j m ′ m (θ), whose coefficients are given in terms of the electromagnetic multipole matrix elements. Furthermore, explicit expre… Show more

“…Deuteron electro-disintegration has been employed as a testing ground for NN models for a long time [17][18][19][20][21][22]. Since the 4-momentum in the breakup process is given by a virtual photon, a richer set of kinematics can be probed as compared to the photo-disintegration process.…”

“…Apart from the general approach of [2], research on these reactions has only been performed for light nuclei. In particular, it is worth mentioning the systematic research on general sets of spin observables for deuterium performed in the last decade by Arenhö vel et al [33][34][35][36][37][38]. In the present paper we try to fill this gap and begin an exploration of the new spin observables that arise in these exclusive reactions from medium nuclei.…”
