Generalizability of valuations on health states collected with the EuroQolc‐questionnaire

Abstract: Although the existence of selective non-response cannot be excluded, its relevance can be considered to be small. This finding is encouraging for the use of empirical utility values in allocative decisions.

“…Generalisation of the study results may be further restricted due to the composition of the panel that performed the valuation tasks and to the selection of the 13 health states. A different selec tion of respondents could lead to different results, although several studies have shown that these effects in this context are minor (Essink-Bot et al 1993;EuroQoI Group, 1990). The selection of the health states may have to some extent influenced the results of this study, although we expect the re lationship between the methods to be hardly influ enced because the sample of the health states was well chosen.…”

“…The generic EuroQoI descriptive system for health states is suitable for all valuation methods and has been used extensively in fundamental and applied valuation research (EuroQoI Group, 1990;Essink-Bot et al, 1993;Agt van et a l , 1994;O 'Hanlon et a l , 1994;Selai and Rosser, 1995).…”

“…Generic HRQoL The participant's generic HRQoL was measured with the 12-item Short Form (SF-12) and the EuroQol questionnaire (EQ-5D) (Essink-Bot et al, 1993;Ware et al, 1996;Gandek et al, 1998;Kind et al, 2005). The SF-12 is a shorter version of the SF-36 and consists of a physical component summary (PCS) and a mental component summary (MCS) (Ware et al, 1996).…”

“…Respondents were also asked to rate their own health on the visual analogue scale (VAS) of the EQ-5D, ranging from 0 (worst imaginable health status) to 100 (best imaginable health status) (Essink-Bot et al, 1993;Kind et al, 2005). Participants completed the EQ-5D VAS at all four assessment points (i.e.…”

“…The EuroQol scores of our patients were compared with those of the same GO patient population 'during treatment' and to a specific Dutch reference population for the EuroQol, described by Essink-Bot et al (13). These comparisons could not be adjusted for genderdifferences because no gender-specific data were available of the reference population (13).…”
