Generalized hidden Markov models for phylogenetic comparative datasets

Abstract: Hidden Markov models (HMMs) have emerged as an important tool for understanding the evolution of characters that take on discrete states. Their flexibility and biological sensibility make them appealing for many phylogenetic comparative applications.
