Generalized Multiple-Vector-Based Model Predictive Control for PMSM Drives

Abstract: Model predictive control (MPC) is emerging as a powerful control method for the high performance control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives due to its merits of simple principle, quick response, and flexibility to handle multiple variables and constraints. However, conventional MPC applies only one voltage vector during one control period to minimize the cost function, which produces relatively high steady-state ripples and high computational burden due to the enumeration-based predictions. In… Show more

“…The parameters of PMSM are same as simulation, as shown in Table II. A high sampling frequency is required for the FCS-MPC to maintain a good control [22]. However, due to the limits of the processor, conventional FCS-MPC cannot run at a high sampling frequency, especially for a multilevel converter.…”

“…Compared to conventional linear controller (PI), FCS-MPC can include some constraints directly in cost function and has an ability of decouple [15]. However, as only one basic voltage vector is selected during one sample time in FSC-MPC, it has a variable switching frequency, producing a relatively large current ripple and total harmonic distortion (THD) of a low sampling frequency [22].…”

“…For example, the 1-PCC is implemented on αβ-frame based on an enumerated way, while the 2-PCC usually takes d-q coordinate, which is not convenient for engineers. One study on unifying the 1-PCC and 2-PCC method in one frame [8] reveals that an alternative cost function about voltage vector is equivalent to the conventional one, but its calculation process is still not intuitive. This paper proposes a generalized predictive current control scheme based on the principle of deadbeat control and vector composition in an explicit way.…”

“…Permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) with advantages of high efficiency, high torque density and good dynamic performance, have been employed in many industrial areas [1][2][3]. Direct torque control (DTC) is one of the most popular control strategies for PMSM due to its fast dynamic response and simple structure [4].…”
