Generation of Femtosecond Electron and Photon Pulses

Abstract: Femtosecond (fs) electron and photon pulses become a tool of increasing importance to study dynamics in ultrafast processes. Such short electron pulses can be generated from a system consisting of a thermioniccathode RF-gun and a magnetic bunch compressor. The fs electron pulses can be used directly or used as a source to produce equally short electromagnetic radiation pulses via certain kind of radiation production processes. At the Fast Neutron Research Facility (FNRF), Thailand, we are especially interested… Show more

“…The prototype was designed to simplify pole machining and assembly by using only rectangular magnet poles. [ 17,18 ] It has 13 pairs of poles, 532 turns of coils per pole, and an undulator gap of 10.5 mm. The prototype was constructed using CNC machining to produce each set of a few pole pieces, which were then attached to an iron yoke.…”

“…A 1.6 cells thermionic RF gun has been developed and operated successfully at APS [2,3] , SUNSHINE [4] for ultra-short electron bunches. At SINAP, a 1.6 cell, π/2 mode with a side couple bi-period structure has been developed.…”
