Generation of Kandinsky Art

Abstract

This article presents a programmed experiment and the results on automatic generation of Kandinsky styles of his Bauhaus years. It analyzes the artist's paintings based on his art theories and the authors' own understanding and observations. The generation process is described in details and sample generated images styled on four of Kandinsky's paintings are also demonstrated and discussed. By pseudo-randomizing various parameters, every styled image generated is unique. The authors' approach is highly scalable, limited only by the memory space set in the programming language Processing used for the generation. Potential impacts of the authors' approach are also discussed. CR Categories: J.5 ARTS AND HUMANITIES -Fine ArtsThe rest of this paper is organized as follows. Section 2 analyzes Kandinsky's styles associated with his art theory and practices. Section 3 describes how we model four selected paintings created by the artist during the Bauhaus years, including the generation flow and detailed steps, together with the generation results. Section 4 discusses the potential impacts of our approach, Just Accepted MS.

Computational aesthetics and applications
