Generation of surface acoustic waves in non-piezoelectric solids using edge bonded rotatedY-cut lithium niobate transducers

Abstract: Edge bonded bulk acoustic wave transducers may be used for surface acoustic wave generation on the surface of a non-piezoelectric substrate. An arbitrary (about the X axis) rotated Y-cut lithium niobate transducer may be used in place of a standard (36°, 90° or 163° rotated) cut. This may allow one to optimize the performances of such a transducer, whose design is presented in this paper. Numerical examples for lead molybdate substrates are given and discussed.
