Genetic analysis for mucinous ovarian carcinoma with infiltrative and expansile invasion and mucinous borderline tumor: a retrospective analysis

Abstract: Background Mucinous carcinoma (MC) is a histological subtype of ovarian cancer that has a worse prognosis at advanced stages than the most prevalent histological subtype, high-grade serous carcinomas. Invasive patterns have been recognized as prognostic factors for MCs. MCs with infiltrative invasion were more aggressive than those with expansile invasion. MC with an expansile pattern exhibited behavior similar to mucinous borderline tumors (MBT). However, genomic analysis of invasive patterns … Show more

“…28 By targeted molecular analysis, the only difference in key tumour intrinsic alterations identified in infiltrative versus confluent MOC is an enrichment for ERBB2 overexpression and amplification in confluent pattern cases. 8,13,14,29 In our study, TP53 abnormality was also not associated with the pattern of invasion, although intriguingly was associated with shorter survival within the infiltrative MOC (albeit with small numbers). Instead, we validated our previous mRNA expression result on the poor prognostic association of THBS2 now on the protein level, 8 and added the related protein FAP.…”
