“…This observation would have explained the inability to cluster MrNV and PvNV in neither alpha‐ nor betanodavirus due to the distinct amino acid sequence encoded by the significant different nucleotide preference and composition of its capsid. Current findings are in agreement to previous reports on the diversity in capsid topologies among the members of the Nodaviridae (Chen et al, ; Low, Md Yusoff, Kuppusamy, & Ahmad Nadzri, ; Odegard, Banerjee, & Johnson, ), where sequence similarity of both MrNV and PvNV is not more than 20% with that alpha‐ and betanodavirus, whilst the capsid protein sequence similarity is more than 80% between MrNV and PvNV (Chong, Ganesan, Yong, Tan, & Ho, ; NaveenKumar et al, ). This may lead to an assumption of nodavirus capsid evolution in a non‐linear form within the family group (Warrilow et al, ).…”

“…6 for a review]. Based on the amino acid sequence of the RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), Mr NV is grouped within the Alphanodavirus genus but owing to some unique characteristics of Mr NV, a new genus ( Gammanodavirus ) has been proposed which would comprise Mr NV and Penaeus vannamei nodavirus ( Pv NV) 9 . In common with other nodaviruses, Mr NV is a non-enveloped, icosahedral virus which comprises a nucleocapsid containing a bipartite positive-sense RNA genome.…”

“…Mr NV belongs to the family Nodaviridae which generally contains two genera: the Alpha‐nodavirus that infects insects, and the Beta‐nodavirus that infects fishes. Mr NV has been proposed to be grouped into a new genus, the Gamma‐nodavirus which infects prawns . Prawn nodavirus includes Mr NV and Penaeus vannamei nodavirus ( Pv NV).…”
