Genetic and molecular biology of breast cancer among Iranian patients

Abstract: Background, Breast cancer (BC) is one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths in Iran. This high ratio of mortality had a rising trend during the recent years which is probably associated with late diagnosis. Main body Therefore it is critical to define a unique panel of genetic markers for the early detection among our population. In present review we summarized all of the reported significant genetic markers among Iranian BC patients for the first time, which are categorize… Show more

“…The most common cellular and molecular processes involved in tumour progression are non-coding RNAs, epigenetic modifications, and immune responses. Among the 117 genes studied, only about 10% are estimated to be high risk factors for the initiation of carcinogenesis (Moghbeli et al, 2019).…”

“…Chemotherapy is an effective method of tumor therapy, but some tumors cannot be treated effectively due to multidrug resistance (MDR) [ 1 , 2 ]. A chemotherapeutic failure of about 85–90% has been reported for solid tumors [ 3 ], making this the main reason for tumor relapse, metastasis and poor clinical outcomes for patients.…”

“…Smoking and overweight are the most important environmental risk factors for lung and gastric cancers in Iranian subjects [8,9]. Beside the environmental factors, genetic and epigenetic factors are also involved in cancer susceptibility among Iranians [10][11][12]. Family history has been reported as a risk factor for breast cancer among Iranian patients [13].…”
