“…Among all 40 studies, 3 studies included populations who were prescreened for genotype (CC or TT) (36,38,39), 2 studies were conducted in populations with a low prevalence of the T allele and thus had no women with TT genotype (40,41), and 3 studies were conducted in population groups with an MTHFR C677T genotype distribution that was significantly different from expected (HWE P value ,0.05) (42)(43)(44).…”

“…The prevalence of HHcy was 13.4% for males and 3.3% in females, and these findings were comparable to those from previous reports on the Korean population [ 38 ]. The incidence of HHcy varies around the world, with the lowest prevalence in the United States (5%), 6% in Costa Rica, 27.5% in China, and the highest prevalence in India (77%) [ 39 , 40 , 41 ]. As shown in Table 1 , two of the HHcy groups had a higher prevalence of binge drinking, regardless of the presence of MetS.…”

“…Fortified food is a good an alternative. The RBC folate status has increased significantly in populations where the mandatory fortification with FA has been implemented [65][66][67][68]. The most recent survey performed in Canada [69], a typical country with mandatory fortification and significant decrease of NTDs, shows that the median RBC folate concentration of women in childbearing age (15-45 years) in 2007-2009 was 1,193 nmol/L, although 22% of them were still below the optimal level (<906 nmol/L).…”
