Genetic dissection of agronomic traits in Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Genetic mapping is very useful for dissecting complex agronomic traits. Genetic mapping allows for identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL), provide knowledge on a gene position and its adjacent region, and enable prediction of evolutionary mechanisms, in addition to contributing to synteny studies. The aim of this study was to predict genetic values associated with different agronomic traits evaluated in an F 2 population of Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum. Previously, a reference genetic map… Show more

“…pendulum hybrids and advanced lines (Gonç alves et al, 2011;Rodrigues et al, 2012;Medeiros et al, 2014;Moulin et al, 2015), since we have been trying to improve this species for yield and diseases resistance such as Pepper yellow mosaic virus (Bento et al, 2013) and anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum spp. .…”

“…However, being aware of this reality, researchers have intensified efforts on studies with peppers of the species C. baccatum. Among them, there are studies on phenotypic diversity characterization (Rêgo et al, , 2015Leite et al, 2016), diallelic analysis and correlation between quantitative traits (Gonçalves et al, 2011;Rodrigues et al, 2012;Medeiros et al, 2014;Rêgo et al, 2009Rêgo et al, , 2015, inheritance of resistance to Pepper yellow mosaic virus -PepYMV (Bento et al, 2013), new cultivars resistant to PepYMV (Oliveira et al, 2015), reference map building (Moulin et al, 2015b), and dissection of QTLs for agronomic traits (Moulin et al, 2015a).…”

“…pendulum is mainly cultivated at medium altitudes on the plains of Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Colombia, and Chile, and in different environments in Brazil (Albrecht et al, 2012), from rain forests to savannah areas. In Brazil, chili peppers belonging to this species are widely produced by family farmers, and the types cambuci and dedo-de-moça (finger's lady) are commonly grown for fresh consumption or for processing into powder or extracts (Rêgo et al, 2011;Rodrigues et al, 2012;Moulin et al, 2015). The conservation of local varieties of C. baccatum in germplasm banks is essential to preserve the diversity of this species and to provide researchers with a range of genetic resources that can be applied in breeding programs.…”
