Genetic Diversity and Structure of Dalmatian Pyrethrum (Tanacetum cinerariifolium Trevir. /Sch./ Bip., Asteraceae) within the Balkan Refugium

Abstract: Dalmatian pyrethrum (Tanacetum cinerariifolium Trevir. /Sch./ Bip.) is an outcrossing, perennial insecticidal plant, restricted to the eastern Adriatic coast (Mediterranean). Amplified fragment-length polymorphisms (AFLP) were used to investigate the genetic diversity and structure within and among 20 natural plant populations. The highest level of gene diversity, the number of private alleles and the frequency down-weighted marker values (DW) were found in northern Adriatic populations and gradually decreased… Show more

“…This genus comprises more than 150 species, including those previously regarded as belonging to the separate genus Pyrethrum Zinn [5,6,7]. T. cinerariifolium is indigenous to the eastern Adriatic coast, and is also found in Croatia, Bosna and Herzegovina, and Montenegro [5,8,9].…”

“…Several wild populations still can be found in Croatia distributed along the Dalmatian coast, and in South Istria (Premantura) (Grdiša et al, 2009). Indigenous Dalmatian populations, have been screened so far, for its chemical diversity (Grdiša et al, 2009), pyrethrins content (Ban et al, 2010), and genetic diversity (Grdiša et al, 2014).…”
