Genetic Diversity of Freshwater Leeches in Lake Gusinoe (Eastern Siberia, Russia)

Abstract: The study of leeches from Lake Gusinoe and its adjacent area offered us the possibility to determine species diversity. As a result, an updated species list of the Gusinoe Hirudinea fauna (Annelida, Clitellata) has been compiled. There are two orders and three families of leeches in the Gusinoe area: order Rhynchobdellida (families Glossiphoniidae and Piscicolidae) and order Arhynchobdellida (family Erpobdellidae). In total, 6 leech species belonging to 6 genera have been identified. Of these, 3 taxa belonging… Show more

“…Thus, the diagnostic characters of G. complanata fit almost any varieties of the Siberian Glossiphonia , with the exception of G. concolor (Apathy, 1888) found in Lake Baikal (Kaygorodova & Pronin, 2013), and Glossiphonia sp. from Lake Gusinoe (Kaygorodova, Mandzyak, Petryaeva, & Pronin, 2014). Taxonomic uncertainty persists at the species level of the genus Glossiphonia , especially Palaearctic species, despite the efforts of previous researchers.…”

“…Additional COI sequences (N = 68) were obtained from NCBI's GenBank (Appendix 1). Most of these sequences were presented in published works (Apakupakul et al 1999;Oceguera-Figueroa et al 2010;Kaygorodova et al 2014;Saglam et al 2018;Bolotov et al 2019;Iwama et al 2019;Behrens-Chapuis et al 2021).…”
