Genetic Diversity of Rotaviruses Circulating in Pediatric Patients and Domestic Animals in Thailand

Abstract: Rotavirus A is a highly contagious virus that causes acute gastroenteritis in humans and a wide variety of animals. In this review, we summarized the information on rotavirus described in the studies in the last decade (2008 to 2021) in Thailand, including the prevalence, seasonality, genetic diversity, and interspecies transmission. The overall prevalence of rotavirus infection in humans ranged from 15–33%. Rotavirus infection was detected throughout the year and most frequently in the dry and cold months, ty… Show more

“…VP2 connected to VP1 (RNA-dependent RNA polymerase) and VP3 (viral capping enzyme) make up the internal core. The complete viral genome, which consists of 11 double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) segments, is enclosed within the internal core layer (Jampanil et al, 2023). The rotavirus genome codes for six nonstructural proteins (NSP1-NSP6) and six viral structural proteins (VP1-VP4, VP6, and VP7) (Desselberger, 2014).…”

“…The most frequent genotypes of CRV are G3P [3], and G3P [9] [4]. CPV is a non-enveloped, single-stranded negative-sense DNA virus with a genome of approximately 5.2 kb and it belongs to the Protoparvovirus genus in the Parvoviridae family [5].…”
