Abstract:The significance of microalgae biotechnology is rising in many fields, including the food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic, feed, and energy industries. Microalgae can also be genetically modified to give them additional traits and produce substances that are not typically seen in algae. Rapid advances in “omics” technologies and the availability of a variety of molecular tools have been the driving forces behind advancements in genetic engineering of microalgae for a sustainable future.
