“…Application of the CEO vaccine via drinking water relies on contact of the vaccine with the nasal cavity during the act of drinking (Robertson & Egerton, 1981;Loudovaris et al, 1991;Devlin et al, 2008). Uneven coverage of a flock allows the vaccine strains to circulate for prolonged periods within the flock.…”

“…The critical involvement of the macrophages in recovery from ILT may be in the processing and presentation of viral antigens (Mills, 1986). The higher percentages of viral antigen positive cells detected after ILTV infection of macrophages from chickens which are genetically resistant (Loudovaris et al, 1991), suggests that the macrophages from these chickens may be better able to process viral antigen and present it to the immune system. This is consistent with the higher titres of ILTV antibody produced by chickens of the resistant inbred J[ and N, lines, compared to the susceptible inbred M, line (Loudovaris et al, 1991).…”

“…There were significant differences in the percentages of macrophages expressing ILTV antigen between the inbred lines of chickens. A greater proportion of macrophages from the relatively resistant ^ (ß 113 ) and N, (ß 114 ) chickens (Loudovaris et al, 1991) were found with ILTV antigens, than macrophages from the susceptible M! (ß 15 ) chickens.…”
