Genetic Susceptibility Toward Nausea and Vomiting in Surgical Patients

Abstract: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are frequently occurring adverse effects following surgical procedures. Despite predictive risk scores and a pallet of prophylactic antiemetic treatments, it is still estimated to affect around 30% of the patients, reducing their well-being and increasing the burden of post-operative care. The aim of the current study was to characterize selected genetic risk factors of PONV to improve the identification of at risk patients. We genotyped 601 patients followed during the… Show more

“…We validate novel DPIs with DGIdb database [41]; DGIdb supports 1,705 known + 1,379 novel DPIs. Among top 60 DGIdb-validated predictions in Supplementary Table S4, we find that many of them can also be supported by the previously known experimental or clinical evidence in the literature [42]- [51].…”

“…PONV is an unsatisfactory experience and painful adverse event for patients, especially in the first day after surgery. Its incidence is approximately 30% and up to 80% without prevention 1 10. Moreover, some surgical types were associated with the high occurrence of PONV, especially in gynaecological surgery, otolaryngology surgery and neurosurgery 3.…”
