Genetic variability of Begonia longifolia Blume from Indonesia based on Nuclear DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence data

Abstract: Abstract.Ningrum WDA, Atmaja MB, Daryono BS, Purnomo. 2020. Genetic variability of Begonia longifolia Blume from Indonesia based on Nuclear DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence data. Biodiversitas 21: 5778-5785. Begonia longifolia Blume is a member of the Begoniaceae family which has the widest distribution in Asia including Indonesia. Diversity studies on B.longifolia from Indonesia were mainly based on morphological characters. The genetic diversity analysis of this pantropical species in Indonesia… Show more

“…The majority of research on the molecular phylogeny of Begonia was based on chloroplast ( psb A -trn H, mat K, and rbc L) sequences and nuclear (ITS and ITS2) fragments. However, the phylogenetic relationship of Begonia was not completely resolved by these sequences [ 16 , 17 ]. Plant phylogeny based on the whole chloroplast genome has become popular in recent years [ 18 , 19 ].…”

“…This score implied a close phylogenetic relationship between Olele sample and five accessions of P. acidula, while the phylogenetic relationship between Biluhu sample and five P. acidula accessions is pretty far. According to Qin et al (2017) and Ningrum et al (2020), the genetic distance threshold for ITS2 in intraspecies of seed plants is 3.76%. Based on the value, it can be said that Olele sample and the fifth P. acidula accession were classified as intraspecies, while Biluhu sample was classified as different species.…”
