Genetic variability studies in response to drought under different water regimes in muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)

Abstract: A set of 40 genotypes of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) were evaluated in a randomized block design with two replications under different water regimes during summer 2012 at the agriculture research station Beechwal, Bikaner, Rajasthan, India to study genetic variability among the traits to determine selection criteria for breeding programmes for fruit yield and related characters. The results reported that drought stress caused reduction in fruit yield and most of the characters studied. Significant variations f… Show more

“…On the other hand, low estimates for PCV and GCV (<10%) were recorded for days to first male flower anthesis and days to first female flower anthesis. Our results agreed with and Bhimappa and Choudhary (2017) for days to first male flower anthesis in muskmelon; Mishra et al (2017) and Pasha et al (2019) and Indraja et al (2021) for days to first female flower anthesis in snap melon and muskmelon, respectively. For all of the traits investigated, PCV was much higher than those of GCV, indicating that the variation was mainly attributed due to genotypic and environment interaction, with higher degree of environmental factors on the expression of these traits.…”

“…Fluctuation in monsoon, climatic changes and varied ecoedaphic conditions are major issues that affect its productivity of rainfed crops including soybean (Hatfield and Prueger, 2015;Vijay et al, 2018;Kumari et al, 2020. Drought is one of the major abiotic stress that can bitterly reduce crops yield production, productivity as well as growth including soybean (Rodziewicz et al, 2014;Sinclair et al, 2014;Mishra et al, 2017;Lamaoui et al, 2018;Arya et al, 2021Choudhary et al, 2021Nikzad et al, 2023;Lumactud et al, 2023). Because, in past in each year one or other regions or one or other stages of crop, it was suffered from drought (Manavalan et al, 2009).…”
